Most of us rarely appreciate the plumbing apparatus of our home unless they develop a problem. Actually, in most of the cases, the problem develops due to lack of appreciation or attention. If we pay just a bit of attention to the plumbing setup of our homes then we can avoid most of the common plumbing problems and save ourselves from a hefty bill from the plumber. In this article we will discuss some common plumbing problems and their solutions. Most of the solutions are based on DIY strategies and most of them are actually precautionary measures. You must have heard that precaution is better than cure. Plumbing problems tend to grow quickly if left unattended and finally they require the intervention from an experienced plumber. Let’s get started and discuss some of the common plumbing problems.
- Decreased Water Flow:
Decreased water flow is caused by two reasons. The first is narrow pipes and the second is blockage in the pipes. If you are someone who is in the process of constructing his home then you can save yourself from this problem by installing water pipes with ¾ inch diameter. If you have a blockage problem then you can try to unblock the pipes with the help of chemical cleaners. Such chemicals are easily available in the market. But they must be used with extreme precaution due to their strong action. If you feel confused while using such chemicals then it’s better to give your local plumber a call.
- Leakage in pipes:
If you notice that there is moisture in your walls then it simply means that water is leaking from your pipe. It usually happens in the cold season. During winters, when the temperature falls below the freezing point, the water in the pipes freezes too. Since water on freezing occupies more volume, it exerts pressure on the pipes and causes fissures. Once the water unfreezes and starts to flow again, it starts to leak from these fissures and seeps into the walls of your home. This moisture is very unhealthy for the structural integrity of your house. Moisture dampens the walls and can even cause the entire structure to fall down and convert your home in to rubble. Moist walls also act as the breeding ground for harmful fungus and mold that can become a serious health hazard. You can avoid such problems by making sure that your pipes are well insulated. A good level of insulation will prevent the pipe from freezing and hence will prevent the cracks and fissures from developing in your pipeline.
- Clogged drains and toilets:
Clogged drains and toilets are a common plumbing issue. They are common because most of the people don’t pay the much needed attention to the plumbing of their home. You can avoid this problem by regularly using some specific chemical un-blockers. You should also watch what goes into the drain. Any non-biodegradable material, in most of the cases, will cause your drain to get clogged. Occasionally, from time to time you must also use the plumber’s snake to make sure that your drain and toilet stays unblocked.
